Truck Rollovers
Due to the large size of semi-trucks they roll easily. Rolling can occur around sharp corners and curves, if rear tires bump into road obstructions, or if the truck goes off the pavement and onto soft ground. Jackknifed trucks can also rollover if they are being backed up improperly. Negligent drivers can easily roll a truck, placing other drivers in grave danger.
Truck Jackknifing
Truck jackknifing occurs usually in slippery road conditions when a truck’s breaks lock. The locking causes the tractor portion of the semi-truck to go one way, while the trailer follows sharply behind forming an acute angle. Negligent drivers are often the cause of truck jackknifing accidents.
Truck Brake Failure
Truck brake failure can occur for a number of reasons, including inadequate maintenance checks, harsh weather conditions, and inadequate parts. Brake failures also occur if the truck is overloaded or if the brakes are unaligned. Brake failures especially occur on downhill slopes due to the weight and velocity of the trucks.
Truck Blind Spot Accidents
All trucks have enormous blind spots, also known as “no zone” areas. The larger the size of the truck, the larger the blind spot is. Blind spots may cause the driver to not see passenger vehicles, pedestrians, or those on motorcycles while on roadways. This can cause accidents while trucks are parking, changing lanes, or even navigating down the road.
Wide Turn Truck Accidents
Trucks require extra area to make turns, especially around sharp corners or down narrow roadways. Trucks will often swing out to the side before making a turn to allow for enough space to get around the corner. Unfortunately, this can cause accidents by either squeezing a passenger vehicle between the truck and the curb or by swiping cars which are in the truck driver’s blind spot.
Truck Accident Collisions
Truck accident collisions can occur for a number of reasons. Firstly, trucks require additional stopping space and when this space is misjudged trucks can rear-end other vehicles. Secondly, collisions may occur while trucks are turning, stopping, or changing lanes due to the truck’s large blind spot. Collisions may also occur if the truck has jackknifed, if the truck has a break failure, or if a truck runs into another vehicle. The chance of a collision occurring is especially heightened if a driver is being negligent or is fatigued. Truck collisions may also occur if the driver is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or if weather conditions are severe.
